James Weaver, Sr. Obituary

James E. Weaver Sr. was born June 14, 1940, in Bolivar, Tennessee, the 4th son and 8th child of thirteen born to the late Arthur and Wesley B. McTizic Weaver.

His earliest education began on the Weaver farm purchased by his paternal grandfather. He learned how to hunt, fish, work with animals, pick cotton, strip cane, and many other agricultural pursuits which would contribute to his work ethics, resilience, and determination as an adult.

His formal education began at Poplar Grove Elementary School; a one classroom log cabin which housed grades one through eight and was led by one instructor. He graduated from Allen White High School in Whiteville, Tennessee.

After graduation he moved to Detroit, Michigan where he met and courted Lorene Hayes. He then started working as a Security Guard for a Supermarket. Then he went on to become a plumber’s helper and became a State certified Plumber and started the family business "Weaver's Electrical Plumbing Service". He was also employed with Sears and Roebuck and he was the President of the Teamsters Union. Because he was a devoted husband and father, James declined an opportunity as general manager that would have required him to relocate.

James and Weaver’s Electrical Plumbing Service had the great honor of serving the City of Detroit with Mayor Coleman A. Young, and Barry Gordy and Motown.

On October 31, 1959, James exchanged marriage vows with Lorene Hayes and to this union four children were born:  James Jr., Cynthia, Shirley, and Joann. Lorene, James Jr., and Joann preceded him in death. Lorene and James were committed to each other and their children and lived out the vow of "until death do us part".

James favorite hobbies included hunting and he was an avid fan of horse racing.

During his stay in Indiana, he was united with Inspiration Church and Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor and Lady Larry A. Hyatt.

On March 5, 2024, at the age of 83, he peacefully entered eternal life at home.

James’ transition leaves many fond memories for daughters Cynthia Jeanette (Pastor Larry A.) Hyatt of Anderson, IN and Shirley P. Parks (Michael Yopp Sr.) of Detroit, MI. Daughter-in-law Kimberly Weaver of Indianapolis, IN and son-in-law Oree Rhodes III of Palmetto, GA; grandchildren Ciara Lauren, William Alan Casey Jr., Erika Rhodes, Oree Rhodes IV, Janelle Rhodes, Jordan Rhodes, Jessica Weaver, Cameron Parks and Michael Yopp Jr.; great grandchildren William Alan Casey IV, Shaniah Singleton and Nalani Casey; sisters Mrs. Mable (Woodie) Green, Mrs. Clenora Byes, Mrs. Ethel Mills and Evangelist Eunice “Sal” James; special nephews, Russell Oliver Williams and Codyevans Elzie.
